Flavors for Life Competition Results

WOW!!! What a great event. As stated in my last blog, I competed in a cooking competition with the theme of “Immune Booster Ingredient”. The event was held at the Cut and Taste catering kitchen in Las Vegas. Annarella Jordan, Flavors For Life founder and Executive Director, was behind the creation and execution of the amazing event. She and her staff executed a flawless and memorable event. 11 local chefs competed for the top 2 prizes of $1000, and $500. 4 judges were present to judge each dish on flavor, presentation, and the use of the Immune Booster ingredient.

The Chefs showcased incredible and creative dishes that rival those at the best restaurants. Competing against these talented and creative young chefs was an honor. These chefs represent the next generation of rising stars in the Las Vegas area.
The top 2 winners of the event went to Chef Jose Bermudez with his delicious Mahi Mahi Tacos, and the top prize went to Chef Stephen LaSala, for his incredible Pan Roasted Cauliflower Steak with Tomato Jam and Caper Vin.
There will be a cookbook published with all the Chefs recipes from the event. I will keep you posted on when and where to get your copy.
My Immune boosting ingredient was Mung Beans. Though not as popular as other ingredients, Mung beans are a powerhouse in Immune Booster properties. Mung Beans are high in protein, vitamins, fiber, minerals, antioxidants, and nutrients. I combined the Mung Beans with other Immune Booster ingredients like spinach, and fresh ginger. The results were a total plant-based soup which was presented to the judges. I did not win but was proud of what I did. Giving the Mung Beans some love, as these beans are not as popular yet, but have been around and used for centuries. Mostly popular and used in Asia and India. A large portion of the sprouts we eat, are from Mung Beans. The other, is Soy Beans. So the next time you are in the mood to try something new, pick up some Mung Beans and give them a try. You will be pleasantly surprised.
I want to thank Annarella Jordan for allowing me the opportunity to be a small part of this incredible event. Her vision is incredible, and for the future of the Culinary movement she is creating for generations to come.
